Scouts and Explorers on Holiday

Scouts and Explorers are now on holiday following on from last week’s “Film and Food” evening.  They will return on Tuesday 8th January 2019.

Beavers and Cub Scouts are on for the final time this year on Thursday.  Usual time, usual place!

Scout Post 2018

2018’s Scout Christmas Post is well underway!  Cards started to be collected in shops on the 1st December, the first sort took place on Thursday 6th and a delivery went out on Sunday 9th.

 

Many thanks to those who came along on Sunday.

 

If you were unable to attend or haven’t as yet put yourself down to help with a delivery, please do.  We need your help.  Deliveries are due to take place on:

 

  • Saturday 15th @ 9.30 am
  • Sunday 16th @ 12.30 pm
  • Saturday 22nd @ 9.30 am

Beaver Outing – Glasgow Transport/Riverside Museum

With this trip due to take place on Saturday – 17th November – please can we ask that anyone wishing to go return consent forms this evening please.

 

The bus is departing Brucefield Church at 9.30 am and we anticipate returning around 3 pm.

 

All Beavers are required to wear their normal Thursday night uniform, bring a packed lunch and, should they wish, some money for the obligatory gift shop.

Scout Post Forms

Please can we ask that Scout Post rota forms be returned today, 13th November by Scouts and Explorers and on Thursday 15th November for Beaver and Cub Scouts.

 

The Scout Post is the Group’s major fundraising event of the year and also a much relied upon service by many in the local community.

 

Every member benefits from the Scout Post.  The money is used to pay our membership fee to the Scout Association and to help fund the Group for the year ahead – reducing what we need to ask parents to pay.

 

Because all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers gain from the Post we ask all families to help with one delivery.  Cards are already sorted, we try hard to give people delivery areas they know and will always provide as much help as possible.  It really is simple!

Remembrance Parade and Service

Many thanks to everyone who came along to yesterday’s Remembrance Parade and Service and to the parents for helping their child be at this important event.

Everyone in attendance was incredibly smart and represented the Scout Group as well.  Thank you very much.

 

Letters

A number of letters have went out over recent weeks.  These have been in relation to:

 

  1. Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service taking place on the 11 November 2018
  2. Our annual Pantomime outing to the King’s Theatre, Glasgow, this year to see Aladdin, on Sunday 30 December 2018
  3. The annual Scout Post fundraising delivery service during much of the month of December and asking for families to assist with the delivery of cards
  4. FOR BEAVER SCOUTS ONLY – the proposed outing to the Riverside/Transport Museum in Glasgow on Saturday 17 November 2018.

 

If you didn’t receive any of these letters then please speak to a leader for a copy.

The pantomime and Beaver outings require a completed consent form returned by those wishing to attend.  We ask that all families do their upmost to help with the Scout Post as every member benefits from the money raised.

We’ll post updates and reminders closer to the time of events.

WANTED – A Scout Leader

Our current Scout Leader, Graeme Brown, intends stepping down from the role due to increased work commitments.  We are therefore looking for someone to take on the position of Scout Leader.

 

Graeme very much intends remaining part of the Group and helping wherever and whenever possible – including with any possible transition.  In addition, whoever we hopefully find to take on this role, would be joining the existing and established team already at the Scouts and would receive all the support myself and the Scout Group can provide and is needed.  The person will in no-way be on their own!

 

Ideally, we are looking for someone who can make a regular, weekly commitment and take on all aspects of running the Scout Troop along with George Campbell and Peter McGuire.

 

I therefore ask that you consider taking on this role or alternatively ask that you please give some serious thought to anyone – family member, friend, work colleague – who may be suitable or willing to become part of the Group’s leadership team.

 

Volunteering is a very worthwhile experience.  Meeting nights can often be busy but they are always fun.  It’s a chance to gain new skills, boost your CV perhaps, meet new people and put something back into our community.

Ceilidh – Friday 5th October 2018

We have taken the decision to cancel the ceilidh which was due to take place on Friday 5th October 2018.

 

Whilst the annual ceilidh began more as a social event rather than a fundraiser – although it has raised a considerable sum of money for Group funds over the years – the number of tickets sold would not be sufficient to cover the cost of the event this year.  We were also concerned that the number of people due to attend would make it difficult for it to be a viable and fun event.  As a Scout Group, we rarely cancel events but under the circumstances we felt this was the best decision to make.

 

A full refund will be given and we apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment caused.

 

Many thanks to everyone who bought tickets and to all the Leaders for their efforts in encouraging and selling tickets.

Ceilidh Appeal

The Group’s Family Ceilidh is due to take place on Friday 5 October 2018.

 

In order for the Group to be able to cover the cost of the band and food and there being enough people to make the event a fun and worthwhile evening for all there, we really need more people to come along.

 

It is taking place in Whitburn Bowling Club starting at 7.30 pm.  Tickets cost £9 for adults and £4.50 for children.  Along with some ceilidh dancing there is a raffle and buffet.  It is very much an informal occasion and no previous ceilidh experience is necessary – it really is all just a bit of fun!

 

If you can, please support this event.  Come along.  Bring your family, friends, colleagues and neighbours.

Welcome Back

We hope everyone had a terrific summer and are ready for another busy and fun Scouting term ahead.

 

Scout and Explorer Scout meetings started back on Tuesday, 21st August and Beaver and Cub Scout meetings resume on Thursday 23rd August.  Spaces are available within all sections so simply come along on a meeting night or contact us via the website or by calling 01501 773519.

 

August subscription letters will be going out to all and camp letters and consent forms to Cubs, Scouts and Explorers for the Group Camp in September.
