REMINDERS – Bag Packing and Group Camp

Last week letters went out promoting our annual bag packing fund raising event at B & M’s in Bathgate over the weekend of 10th and 11th August.

We are just asking that parents and their child come along for a small part of each Section’s designated half day.

Please get in touch with Louise on 01501 773519 or at louise.burton21@googlemail.com with when you can help.

The money raised during this event helps us reduce the amount we need to request from parents. Please get involved.

Letters and consent forms also went out to Cubs, Scouts and Explorers regarding the Group Camp in September. Please return these as soon as possible.

We’ve asked that these be returned for the first week in September.

If anyone missed these items, please speak to any leader.

THANK YOU – Gala Day

Many thanks to everyone who came along to the Gala Day on Saturday. Turnout, particularly from the Beavers, was terrific. Thank you to parents for bringing our young people along and possibly cajoling where necessary!

The flags are now away until their next outing for Remembrance Sunday in November.

REMINDER: Whitburn Gala Day

Tomorrow is Whitburn’s big day! It is also a day to show Whitburn how big Scouting is in the town. A fantastic number of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers come along to weekly meetings, outings and camps. We need them to come along to tomorrow’s Gala Day too!

We are meeting at Brucefield Church Car Park – behind the church – at 10.15 am. We will head down to Whitburn Academy around 10.30 am to form up for the procession. Everyone is asked to wear full uniform, including smart trousers and shoes. The weather forecast is looking good so the already-purchased ponchos won’t hopefully be needed. Juice and some sweets will be provided and everyone will get a chance to carry the flags. It is the Gala Day after all!

The children can be collected at the top end of King George V Park – Park View/Bog Road end – around 12 noon.

Please don’t wave at us – come along and wave with us!

REMINDER: Civic Week Songs of Praise Parade and Service

The parade and service to mark the start of Whitburn’s Civic Week takes place tomorrow, Sunday 16th June.

We are meeting at Whitburn Bowling Club at 2.15 pm for the parade leaving at 2.30 pm. We intend returning to the Bowling Club at around 4.15 pm.

All Beavers, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorers are asked to wear full uniform, including smart trousers and shoes. A collection for charity will be taken during the service.

Parade attendance has been disappointing this year so far. We would love to see as many of our young people attend the Songs of Praise Parade and Service as possible to show Whitburn just how strong Scouting is in the town.

THANK YOU – Uniformed Organisation Quiz

Many thanks to the Cubs, Scout and Explorers who came along to the Gala Day Uniformed Organisation Quiz on Thursday.

They all did brilliant! But, a special “Well Done” needs to go to the Cub Scouts for winning the Junior Round!

REMINDER: GALA DAY UNIFORMED ORGANISATION QUIZ

The Uniformed Organisation Quiz takes place today, Thursday 13th June 2019.

The Junior Section quiz, which the Cub Scouts will be taking part in, starts at 6.15 pm. The Senior Section quiz starts at 7.30 pm and will involve a team of Scouts and Explorer Scouts.

If your child has been asked to take part, please encourage them to come along and represent the Group and, if possible, please come along yourself and support your child, the Scout Group and the event itself.

REMINDER: Beaver Trip to East Link

The bus is departing Brucefield Church this morning at 9 am. We intend returning at 5 pm.

Uniform, packed lunch, jacket and, should you wish to visit the shop or perhaps feed the animals, some money.

Beaver Trip to East Links

The Beaver Scouts are going to East Links Family Park, near Dunbar on Saturday – 1 June 2019.

The bus is leaving Brucefield Church at 9 am and we intend returning at approximately 5 pm.

Beavers are asked to wear their uniform, bring a jacket and a packed lunch. There is a gift shop that the children may wish to visit.

Anyone wishing to go who has not already returned a consent form, please do so on Thursday. If a consent form is needed or you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to speak to any leader on Thursday.

Beavers and Cub Scouts at Polkemmet

Due to the halls being used for the European Elections on Thursday (23 May 2019), Beaver and Cub Scouts will be going to Polkemmet Country Park for the evening.

We ask that the Cubs and Beavers – from BOTH Beavers groups – are dropped off at Polkemmet at 6 pm and collected once again at 7.30 pm.  We intend gathering at and departing from the car park nearest to the adventure play area – close to the park’s Visitor Centre.  Parents may of course wish to consider sharing transport if convenient.

Everyone is asked to wear their normal Thursday night uniform but wear sensible outdoor footwear and a jacket may be useful depending on the weather.  Drinks and a snack will be provided during the evening.

If transport is an issue please contact one of the leaders and arrangements will be made to get any kids to and from Polkemmet.

As with other outings to Polkemmet, if the weather is poor then sadly the evening will have to be cancelled as no alternative accommodation is available to us.   Please do not go to Polkemmet if the weather is not suitable for being outdoors.  Please use your own judgement and if in doubt, contact Gavin on 743288 AFTER 4.30 PM ON THE THURSDAY EVENING.  We will also post any information on our website and Facebook page.

Brucefield Parade and Service

Takes place this Sunday. We are gathering at Whitburn Bowling Club at 10.15 am for a 10.30 am departure. We hope to be back at the Bowling Club around 12.15 pm, after the church service.

Everyone is asked to wear full uniform and a collection will be taken during the service.

We know everyone’s busy. We know parades and services are perhaps seen as a less exciting activity compared to many other things we do. But, they are part of what we do, part of being a Scout, and we ask that everyone makes a real effort to attend. We thank parents for helping (and perhaps cajoling) their child to do so.

Attendance at the District Parade at the end of April was disappointing across the Sections. An improvement would be brilliant and appreciated. Many thanks.
