REMINDERS – Bag Packing and Group Camp

Last week letters went out promoting our annual bag packing fund raising event at B & M’s in Bathgate over the weekend of 10th and 11th August.

We are just asking that parents and their child come along for a small part of each Section’s designated half day.

Please get in touch with Louise on 01501 773519 or at with when you can help.

The money raised during this event helps us reduce the amount we need to request from parents. Please get involved.

Letters and consent forms also went out to Cubs, Scouts and Explorers regarding the Group Camp in September. Please return these as soon as possible.

We’ve asked that these be returned for the first week in September.

If anyone missed these items, please speak to any leader.

Winter Zodiac Camp

Congratulations to Explorers, Lewis and Cameron for successfully completing the Zodiac Bronze Award this weekend. Well done also to Alex for his first camp.

The Zodiac award involves camping in each of the four seasons; Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter whilst completing a challenge. The challenge at this camp was a tough one, sleeping at least 6 foot off the ground. The Explorers chose to sleep in a tree house in the Adventure playground at the Craigs. The problem was that the tree house has no roof and the walls have plenty of gaps to let in the wind. With extensive use of rope and tarpaulin, the Explorers were able to built and shelter and survived a very windy and cold night.

Scout and Explorer Scout Meetings Resume

We look forward to welcoming back all our Scouts and Explorer Scouts tonight for a new year of fun and exciting Scouting.

New faces are always welcome! Scouts are for young people aged between 10 – 14 years old and meet on Tuesdays between 6.30 and 8.30 pm. Explorer Scouts are for young people aged between 14 – 18 years old and meet also on a Tuesday from 7.30 – 8.30 pm. All meetings take place at Brucefield Church, East Main Street, Whitburn.

Simply come along to any meeting, visit our website at or contact Gavin Johnston on 01501 773519.

The Scout Troop enters a new chapter this year as Zack Renwick takes up the reins of the Scout Troop from Graeme Brown. Both Graeme and Zack will work together over the next few months as the transition takes place. We wish Zack, George, Peter and the entire Scout Troop the best of luck over the year ahead. Graeme has no intention of disappearing and will still be very much part of the Group.

Scouts and Explorers on Holiday

Scouts and Explorers are now on holiday following on from last week’s “Film and Food” evening.  They will return on Tuesday 8th January 2019.

Beavers and Cub Scouts are on for the final time this year on Thursday.  Usual time, usual place!

Scout Post Forms

Please can we ask that Scout Post rota forms be returned today, 13th November by Scouts and Explorers and on Thursday 15th November for Beaver and Cub Scouts.

The Scout Post is the Group’s major fundraising event of the year and also a much relied upon service by many in the local community.

Every member benefits from the Scout Post.  The money is used to pay our membership fee to the Scout Association and to help fund the Group for the year ahead – reducing what we need to ask parents to pay.

Because all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers gain from the Post we ask all families to help with one delivery.  Cards are already sorted, we try hard to give people delivery areas they know and will always provide as much help as possible.  It really is simple!

Many thanks for your support!

A number of letters have went out over recent weeks.  These have been in relation to:

  1. Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service taking place on the 11 November 2018
  2. Our annual Pantomime outing to the King’s Theatre, Glasgow, this year to see Aladdin, on Sunday 30 December 2018
  3. The annual Scout Post fundraising delivery service during much of the month of December and asking for families to assist with the delivery of cards
  4. FOR BEAVER SCOUTS ONLY – the proposed outing to the Riverside/Transport Museum in Glasgow on Saturday 17 November 2018.

If you didn’t receive any of these letters then please speak to a leader for a copy.

The pantomime and Beaver outings require a completed consent form returned by those wishing to attend.  We ask that all families do their upmost to help with the Scout Post as every member benefits from the money raised.

We’ll post updates and reminders closer to the time of events.

Ceilidh Appeal

The Group’s Family Ceilidh is due to take place on Friday 5 October 2018.

In order for the Group to be able to cover the cost of the band and food and there being enough people to make the event a fun and worthwhile evening for all there, we really need more people to come along.

It is taking place in Whitburn Bowling Club starting at 7.30 pm.  Tickets cost £9 for adults and £4.50 for children.  Along with some ceilidh dancing there is a raffle and buffet.  It is very much an informal occasion and no previous ceilidh experience is necessary – it really is all just a bit of fun!

If you can, please support this event.  Come along.  Bring your family, friends, colleagues and neighbours.

Speak to any leader or call Louise or Gavin on 01501 773519 for tickets or more information.

REMINDER: Bag Packing at B & M’s this Weekend

The Scout Group is bag packing at B & M’s in Bathgate over the weekend of the 11th and 12th August 2018.  We did this last year and the fantastic sum of £1085 was raised.

This event will once again enable the Group to raise money that will go towards paying for outings, camps and the general running of the Group.   Such fundraising reduces the need to ask parents to pay for activities or how much money activities cost members.

We hope that members and their parents/guardians from all Sections will help with this venture by coming along and are proposing dividing up the days and slots as follows:

Sat 11 August Beavers Slot 1 = 10 – 11.30 am Slot 2 = 11.30 am – 1 pm
Sat 11 August Explorers Slot 1 = 1 – 2.30 pm Slot 2 = 2.30 – 4 pm
Sun 12 August Cubs Slot 1 = 10 – 11.30 am Slot 2 = 11.30 am – 1 pm
Sun 12 August Scouts Slot 1 = 1 – 2.30 pm Slot 2 = 2.30 – 4 pm

The hope is that lots people will offer to help meaning that people may only have to do part of a Section’s allocated time.

If you are able to help then please contact Louise on 01501 773519, e-mail or leave a message on the Group’s Facebook page.  We will contact you back with your allocated time.

Many thanks in anticipation.
