Scout Post

Many thanks to everyone who helped delivery the promotional leaflets over the weekend. A tremendous number went out which is brilliant. There are a few pockets of the town still to do and if anyone is able and willing then please speak to any of the leaders.

Thank you also to everyone who has returned a Rota form indicating when they can help with a Scout Post delivery. Little green slips advising you of your date will go out on Tuesday and Thursday. If a form hasn’t been returned, there’s still plenty of time to help! Please return a form ASAP, call 01501 773519 or e-mail

Scout Christmas Post

Scout Christmast Post Poster 2019

The Scout Group’s Christmas Post Service began in 1986.  Since then over 620,000 cards have been delivered to the citizens of Whitburn, East Whitburn and Redmill – and often beyond!

The money raised through the Post helps with the running of the Group from one year to next.  It enables us to try and minimise the cost of Scouting to families and help make Scouting available to everyone. The money raised is used to pay all the annual membership fee to the Scout Association, to provide free camps and outings for our young people and to pay for transport to many events.

For the price of 30p per card, members of the public can send cards to Whitburn, East Whitburn and Redmill.

Cards can be posted at the following shops/businesses from Monday 2 December until Thursday 19 December 2019:

Gothenburg Convenience Store East Whitburn
KeyStore (Mr Singh) East Main Street
Rashid Brothers Murraysgate
Lifestyle Express (Formerly Capt Morgan’s) East Main Street
Mia’s (Formerly Glenda’s) West Main Street
Boots the Chemist West Main Street
Glenmore Mini-market Glenmore

The Group is indebted to the above businesses for their tremendous support and efforts with the Scout Post.

Every effort is taken to ensure we provide a quality service to the public – each card is as important to us as it is to the sender and recipient.  The public can help us greatly with this by ensuring all cards are correctly addressed with a full name, house number and street.  Every year, a large number of incorrectly addressed cards are posted and many of these often require considerable research.

Deliveries will normally take place during Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons.  Please note that Scouts and adult helpers cannot accept cards for posting from the public whilst out delivering.

Any comments or questions regarding the service should be made to Group Scout Leader Gavin Johnston on 01501 773519 or at

REMINDER: Scout Post Promotional Leaflet Delivery

Thank you very much to everyone who collected Scout Post promotional leaflets on Tuesday or Thursday night.

The remaining leaflets are available to go out tomorrow – Saturday 23rd November from 9.30 am at Brucefield Church Halls.

If you can help, please come along!

There are a number of leaflets to go out tomorrow – Saturday

REMINDER – Scout Post

You have perhaps noticed – and hopefully received – a number of letters over recent weeks concerning the upcoming annual Scout Post – the Group’s main fundraising event of the year.

  1. SCOUT POST ROTA – Please can we ask that if a Scout Post rota return – the delivery date you can help with – hasn’t been returned, that it is on Tuesday and Thursday this week. The rota needs to be put together and people who have already offered to help informed of the day they are required. We ask that all families help with one delivery since all members benefit greatly from the money raised by the Scout Post. Thank you.
  2. MEETING FOR PARENTS NEW TO SCOUT POST – a brief meeting will be held on Thursday, 21 November 2019 at 6.15 pm and lasting only 15 minutes. It is being held in the McKnight Lounge, Brucefield Church Halls. It is a chance to hear how the Post works and to have any questions or concerns you may have answered.
  3. SCOUT POST PROMOTIONAL LEAFLET – is taking place this Saturday, 23 November 2019 from 9.30 am. We are looking for help delivering leaflets throughout the town promoting the service. For anyone unable to help on Saturday, leaflets will be available to uplift after the Scouts/Explorers on Tuesday and the Beavers/Cub Scouts on Thursday. Any help would be much appreciated.

REMINDER: Remembrance Sunday – 10th November 2019

The above parade and service takes place tomorrow.

As intimated in the recent letter, we have always considered this to be an ‘optional’ parade for members as it can be a very cold day and the service deals with sombre themes.

However, if your child wishes to do so, they would be made very welcome for this very significant parade and service.

Due to building work at the Burgh Halls, this year we are assembling in the car park behind Tastes Café, Armadale Road at 10.15 am on the Sunday morning.

We will parade from Armadale Road, at around 10.30 am, to the Cenotaph at Whitburn Community Centre. After a short service at the Cenotaph, all participants will move over to Whitburn South Church for the Remembrance Service.  The parade will then return to the Masonic Hall for refreshments and a snack.  Proceedings should finish around 1.15 pm. If preferred, parents can collect their children at the end of the parade (around 12.45 pm).

All members in attendance are asked to wear their uniform as well as smart trousers. If possible, warm underclothes should be worn.
